A manhunt is underway for “multiple shooters” responsible for a tragic incident in Birmingham, Alabama, where four people were killed and 18 others injured after gunfire erupted among a large crowd early Sunday morning.

Birmingham Police Department Officer Truman Fitzgerald provided details at a news conference, stating that at least four of the injured have “life-threatening injuries.” Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, finding two adult males and one adult female unresponsive on the sidewalk from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth victim died later at a nearby hospital.

Fitzgerald noted, “We believe that multiple shooters fired multiple shots into a group of people,” and emphasized the need for public assistance to determine whether the shooters approached on foot or drove by. “There’s no one in custody,” he stated, reassuring the public that efforts are being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for this attack.

While the motive remains unclear, investigators believe the shooting was not random but resulted from an isolated incident that caught multiple victims in the crossfire. Fitzgerald urged local businesses with security cameras to review their footage for any relevant evidence.

The police department is collaborating with the FBI and ATF in the ongoing investigation. This incident marks the second mass shooting in Birmingham this year, following a July incident at a nightclub that also resulted in four deaths.
