Trump gets his way before the debate with Harris, but still complains
As recently as a week ago, it seemed almost certain that Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump would be debating on September 10. However, there was one remaining issue for the campaigns to resolve: Would the candidates' microphones be on throughout the debate, or only when they were speaking in response to a question?
Traditionally, microphones have been on for the duration of the debate, and Harris' campaign wanted to keep it that way. However, Trump's team argued against this, and their reasoning became clear. According to a recent NBC News report, the Harris campaign believes that there should be no restrictions, allowing viewers to see a completely unfiltered Trump. They argue that while there is much discussion about President Biden's cognitive abilities, it is Trump who struggles to stay focused. Allowing Trump to speak freely without microphone restrictions would likely benefit Harris.
